They fired six shots from a white car at the main entrance of the US Embassy in Ankara. Three bullets hit the metal door and a glass panel in the embassy's security cabin.
One of the defendants said the anger at US President Donald Trump's statements against Turkey and the lira collapse against the US dollar were behind the move.
"I contacted Osman that night and we met. We drank and drove the car.We talked about the dollar crisis, the US threats against Turkey and the recent US president's statements. "
"We were angry and decided to shoot at the US Embassy, we were under the influence of alcohol," he said during his confessions before the counterterrorism officers.
According to a Turkish security source, no evidence was found indicating that the two persons accused of firing had received instructions from a third party for execution. The defendants were sent to court on Wednesday.
