Shafaq News / The US ambassador to Baghdad, Matthew Toller, announced the transition to a “new phase” of the US forces ’mission in Iraq, which is to reduce their military presence.

In a statement marking the third anniversary of the victory over ISIS, Tueller said, “Today, the 10th of December, marks the third anniversary of the defeat of ISIS in the region, which resulted in the liberation of more than 8 million Iraqis and Syrians who were previously living under its control.”

“This day is also a reminder that we must remain vigilant to ensure that the defeat of ISIS is a permanent defeat, and that it will never return again to threaten humanity. Today we offer our prayers and invitations to those who fell while struggling to liberate Iraq from ISIS, their sacrifices will not be forgotten. We also remember those who lost. Their friends, family members and homes. Despite all these enormous sacrifices, we look with hope to the future. ”

Tueller added, “We congratulate the Iraqi security forces that, with the United States and its other coalition partners, have made exceptional progress in reducing the capabilities of ISIS, thus ensuring continued pressure on ISIS to ensure its permanent defeat while providing an opportunity for stability and prosperity in the liberated areas,” declaring, “We are moving to the stage.” The next of our mission is in Iraq, where the United States is scaling back its military presence while Iraqi security forces are increasingly taking the lead in the fight against ISIS remnants. ”

“The coalition will continue to provide advice and assistance to Iraqi security forces operations against ISIS at the request of the government of Iraq,” the American ambassador emphasized, noting that “the commitment of the United States remains firm to the Iraqi people. We will continue to stand with the Iraqi people in creating a safe, stable and prosperous Iraq.”
