The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government affirmed that the region is looking forward to establishing better relations with the Arab countries, expressing his hope that the Arab League will play its vital role in solving the accumulated problems in Iraq.
A statement from Barzani’s office stated that the latter “received the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and during the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the general situation in Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with Arab countries were also highlighted.
According to the statement, the Secretary General of the Arab League valued the role of "the Kurdistan Region and its important location, and its distinguished economic success," noting that "his visit to the Kurdistan Region is nothing but a message calling on Arab countries to strengthen their relations with the Kurdistan Region within the framework of federal Iraq, and not Especially in trade and investment.
The Prime Minister thanked the Secretary-General of the Arab League for his support, and expressed his "hope that the Arab League would play its vital role in order to solve the accumulated problems in Iraq." He also indicated that "the Kurdistan Region is looking forward to establishing better relations with Arab countries."
