    During the current year, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals will open petrochemical, iron and steel plants in Basra Governorate, while confirming that these projects contribute to providing raw materials and hard currency.
    The official spokesman for the ministry, Mortada Al-Safi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah newspaper, which was followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that "the works related to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the petrochemical, iron and steel plants have reached advanced stages," indicating that their opening will contribute to supporting the national industry in addition to providing the raw materials entering In a large number of different industries, as well as providing hard currency used to import it from outside the country.
    Last year, the Ministry of Industry announced that the governor of Basra had provided financial support in the amount of 50 billion dinars to complete the iron and steel plant project, which had been suspended for 15 years, and that there is cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and the American (Shell) Company to develop plans for the (Al-Nebras) petrochemical project in Basra, which It is one of the largest projects in the country.
    And that "work is also underway to implement the works related to the establishment of an integrated industrial city in Dhi Qar Governorate," noting that "the importance of opening this project lies in providing job opportunities for the people of the province and the neighboring provinces."
    Al-Safi declared that "the ministry has received continuous offers from a number of neighboring countries to buy its various products," declaring that "four items of materials produced by the General Company for Mining Industries have been exported to the UAE, namely: Asphalt, Prime Coat, Blackrime, and CAD Pad."
