Legal expert: Iraq can cancel the agreement to enter the Turkish army into its territory
A legal expert confirmed that Iraq has the right to amend or cancel the agreement signed between the dissolved Baath regime and the Turkish government, which allows the Turkish army to enter the Kurdistan Region.
Tariq Harb said in a special statement to PUKmedia, that the federal government can amend or cancel the agreement at any time, stressing that the current conditions in the region do not allow for this option.
Tariq Harb explained that the House of Representatives has nothing to do with the matter, because the government has the authority to cancel the agreement, because the agreement was signed by Saddam Hussein, who was the head of the executive authority at the time, and that the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council did not sign it, which was the legislative authority at the time of the Ba'ath rule.
The Turkish government is carrying out penetration operations into the territory of the Kurdistan Region under the pretext of pursuing the PKK elements, while it gives itself the right to do so based on an agreement it signed in 1984 with the buried Baath regime, which allows the Turkish army to penetrate into the territory of the Kurdistan Region for a distance of 35 km to pursue the Kurdish workers.
