    The head of the Iraqi Authority for Radioactive Sources, Kamal Hussein Latif, confirmed, on Sunday, that the production of electricity by nuclear energy is the cheapest and most efficient among other types of energy, indicating that the establishment of such reactors in the country will provide stable and stable electricity as well as save billions of dollars to the state treasury that spends annually to produce electricity.
    Latif said in an interview seen by "Al-Eqtisad News", "Building nuclear reactors for the purposes of producing electric energy is one of the most important elements of economic growth and sustainable development. Besides achieving energy sufficiency by covering the growing and continuous demand, the advantage of nuclear energy production is the element of continuity in the supply and for a period. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and all days of the year, except for ten days only for refilling new nuclear fuel and maintenance work.
    He added that "the electricity produced by nuclear energy is one of the cheapest energies compared to the rest of the fuels and at the level of the standard product price LCOE," noting that "the production of electricity with nuclear energy will have a double benefit, because Iraq is one of the oil and gas exporting countries and it consumes a part of it is estimated." About 7% of the annual production of oil, and all production from gas while the need for it continues, as all of Iraq's gas production now covers about 70% for the purpose of producing electricity, and fuel costs are estimated at more than $ 5 billion annually, representing more than 7% Of national income. ”
    Latif said, "If it is estimated that we would replace nuclear energy instead of energy resulting from burning oil and gas, even by 25%, this would greatly reduce the waste and depletion of the state budget, which would greatly improve per capita income and reduce fuel expenditures that exhaust the public budget."
