    Today, Monday, Minister of Planning Khaled Battal Al-Najm announced the completion of low-cost housing complexes as part of the poverty alleviation strategy, while calling on the United Nations to support efforts to address the housing crisis.
    The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, received the Executive Director of the United Nations Organization for Human Settlements (Habitat) Maimouna Muhammad Sharif and the accompanying delegation, which included the organization's regional director, Dr. Irfan Ali, and the Director of the Iraq Program, Wael Al-Ashhab," noting that "at the beginning of the meeting, the minister valued the positive role played by (Habitat) in Iraq, and the level of cooperation has developed significantly over the past years."
    She added that "the two parties discussed, at their meeting, a number of issues related to joint cooperation, and the programs and projects that the organization undertakes to implement, in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning, as the national coordinating body between international organizations and Iraqi authorities," noting that "the meeting discussed the conditions for implementing the census. The General Population, and the role of “Habitat” organization in providing modern aerial photographs of administrative units. The two sides also discussed the ongoing preparations to implement a comprehensive survey of slums throughout Iraq, within the framework of the road map for dealing with the informal housing file, pending the approval of the relevant law by the House of Representatives. .
    And she added, "The two parties agreed to form a joint committee that includes representatives from the ministries of Planning, Housing and Construction, the National Investment Authority and the Habitat organization to activate bilateral memoranda of cooperation and understanding in various fields."
    The Minister of Planning called on the United Nations Organization for Human Settlements to support the ministry’s efforts to address the housing crisis in Iraq, in accordance with the housing policy included in the five-year development plan and the vision of sustainable development 2030, explaining that “this support can be achieved through preparing modern designs for the role of Low cost that takes into account the requirements of sustainable development and the use of available natural resources.
    He announced that "a number of low-cost housing complexes have been completed, as part of the poverty alleviation strategy, which will soon be distributed to the beneficiaries according to the standards adopted in this regard."
