    Today, Tuesday, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Electoral Security Affairs, Muayyad Naim, revealed the imposition of harsh penalties for possessing and carrying weapons without a license, indicating that the possession of weapons will be limited to specific groups.
    Naim told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Committee for Diwani Order 96 was formed by order of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and it is concerned with the arms monopoly program in the hands of the state," noting that "the formation of the committee was taken after studying the issue and the presence of many loopholes in Law 57 of 2017 on With weapons, the prevalence of weapons is strange in Iraq.
    He added, "This committee has been working for four months with a complete package of state agencies concerned with the State Shura Council, in addition to the National Security Service, the Intelligence Service, the Interior Ministry, and the Prime Minister's Office, and among its tasks is to amend the Weapons Law, as it is nearing completion and has reached the final provisions of the law." He pointed out that "there will be a very important draft law dealing with arms, because the licensing of arms will be with very high fees, and the penalties for possession of weapons will be very severe, with conditions and limits set for its holders."
    He added that "the law will include legalizing and reducing the possession of arms for legal persons, such as parties and companies, as well as the principle of reciprocity with foreign companies, whether protection companies or diplomatic bodies and missions," explaining that "the amendment of the law adopted by the government is very important and will be on the parliament table in the coming weeks, and we are waiting."     And Naim indicated that "the crisis and tribulations of the Iraqi people lie in the proliferation of weapons," noting that "the Supreme Judicial Council will be interactive in inflicting harsh punishment on the issue of weapons possession."
    He stressed that "there are amendments to the law that include imposing the penalty on the higher ceiling of possession, in addition to the fact that the Ministry of Interior will be the one responsible for opening and following up arms offices while reducing imports, and that government and state institutions, whether in military manufacturing, and the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior will be concerned with manufacturing light weapons."
