, Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a new statement regarding Iraqi immigrants.
A statement of the ministry, of which Mawazine News received a copy, stated, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with interest the issue of Iraqi immigrants and the risks
that stem from it, which were and still are a target for smuggling and human trafficking networks, in a way that may cause consequences for the security and lives of individuals. The statement renewed the call to Iraqi citizens not to fall into a trap. These groups, pointing out that the Iraqi government has taken a set of measures that would limit the exploitation of travelers to a number of countries.In
this context, Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received, on Friday, several calls from Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Policy and Security in the European Union, and Gabrielius Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister of Lithuania, and Edgar Rinkevich, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
During these contacts, the minister stressed that Iraqi laws guarantee freedom of travel for the Iraqi citizen, but human trafficking and the risks of expanding smuggling networks, and its reflection on the security of Iraqi travelers, are classified as criminal acts, noting that the measures taken recently by the government to protect Iraqi citizens who have fallen victim to smuggling networks These included the temporary suspension of travel to Belarus and the continuation of flights back from it to Baghdad, and investigation measures were taken regarding the smuggling of citizens and their entrapment in an unknown fate.
