Member of Parliament Zahra Al-Bajari explained today, Saturday, that the European ban on Iraqi aviation is still in place, while she stressed that lifting the ban will bring Iraq an important economic resource.
Al-Bujari said in a statement to the agency, “Iraqi Airways suffers from a major management failure,” noting that “the failure of the aviation authority to fully meet the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization makes the ban on Iraq in place.”
She added, "The Aviation Authority and Iraqi Airways bear responsibility for the ban imposed on Iraqi flights in European airspace," noting that the airlines' contracts with European companies to be a floating bridge for passing Iraqi aircraft are patchwork solutions."
The ban obliges Iraqi Airways to operate its flights to Europe via other airlines, which incurs additional costs and affects ticket prices for passengers. The ban also hinders Iraq’s ability to export to European Union countries and limits trade opportunities. End 25/J
