The Ministry of Defense responded, on Saturday, to a report that claimed that astronomical salaries were paid to female affiliates who have no role.
A statement by the ministry, a copy of which was received by Mawazine News, stated: “In response to what was published on the page of the journalist Quds al-Samarrai, regarding the formation of the Women Empowerment Department and its linking to the Minister’s office, with the offer that the department, according to her claim, is supposed to be within the staff of the Directorate of Human Rights, as She pointed out that women have no role in this prestigious institution and that they receive very high salaries and they have no role like their fellow fighters.
The statement added: "Based on the aforementioned, we confirm that the Women's Empowerment Department was formed based on the directives issued by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and that based on the letter received from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers No.: TM/02 on 12-12-2020 After being transferred from people to sections, the women’s empowerment departments were technically linked to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the offices of the ministers administratively. Accordingly, the women’s empowerment departments were linked to the offices of the ministers in all ministries, including the Ministry of Defense.
He continued, "As for the role of women working in the Ministry of Defense, their work in the Ministry is no less important than the work of men, with the specialty related to combat for our combatant heroes.
The Ministry of Defense possesses very efficient female cadres and has proven its worth through the work it does in all medical, engineering and administrative fields. And the media, teaching, financial and other various fields in which women excelled.”
The statement stressed, "What has been published is a detraction of the great role played by women in building society, and that what was mentioned about women being an alien element in this institution, we show that the Ministry of Defense has included a large number of women working in this institution since it was established."
He said: "In order to rehabilitate the female cadres working in the Ministry of Defense, the ministry will abide by its legal right to respond to journalist Quds al-Samarrai, and the judiciary will be the judge and the one who has the supreme say in this regard."
