, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and an accompanying diplomatic and military delegation.
At the meeting, the Italian Foreign Minister spoke about his country’s inspection of his country’s forces in Iraq and stressed Italy’s continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan region, and praised the role of the Peshmerga in defeating ISIS, and for hosting and sheltering the displaced and refugees.
The Italian Foreign Minister called on President Nechirvan Barzani to pay an official visit to Rome, and regarding the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan region with Italy, the two sides stressed the common desire to strengthen relations and expand areas of joint cooperation, especially in the economic and cultural fields.
For his part, in addition to congratulating the Italian minister, people and government on the birthday of Jesus Christ and the New Year, Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region's thanks and gratitude for the Italian support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the war against ISIS, and for the training and training of the Peshmerga forces and the Italian humanitarian aid.
