Shafaq News/ On Thursday, Representative Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani demanded that the Ministry of Oil provide him with the priorities of the agreement between the Iraqi side and the French "Total" company to implement four projects in the oil and energy sectors.
Al-Sudani mentioned in an official letter addressed to the Ministry of Oil, which was reviewed by Shafak News Agency, "based on the provisions of Article (61) of the Constitution and Articles (15,16,27 / Seventh) of the House of Representatives Law No. (13) of 2018 and also on the basis of Article (32). / III) From the internal system of the House of Representatives, we asked the ministry to provide us with the priorities of the agreement with the French company in order to scrutinize it.
He added that "the agreement includes four contracts and includes a project to develop the Artawi oil field, a project to establish an Artawi gas complex, a joint sea water supply project, and a project to establish an electric power plant."
And he indicated that he also requested, "and among the priorities is the feasibility study for these projects and the method of contracting for the four projects contracts shown in the above," stressing that "one of the basic tasks of a member of the House of Representatives is to monitor and contribute to legislation."
On the fifth of September 2021, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil signed a contract with the French company "Total" worth 27 billion dollars, to implement four projects in the field of gas and electric power.
In a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the contract signing in Baghdad, Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar said that "the French oil company will build four giant energy projects in the southern province of Basra, worth $27 billion."
With the CEO of Total, Patrick Pouyanneh, said that "the company will start with an initial investment of $10 billion, and that engineering work will start at the end of this year."
The contract includes four projects. The first is the development of a gas refining complex in all fields, outside the Basra Gas Agreement, which are the fields of (Artawi, West Qurna/2, Majnoon, Al-Touba, Al-Luhais).
the second project, the construction of a large central gas complex in the Artawi field (southeast); The third project is the construction of facilities to produce 1,000 megawatts of electrical energy using solar energy.
While the fourth project, the development of the Artawi field with the aim of maximizing the potential of gas supply.
Estimates indicate that Iraq possesses an estimated stock of 132 trillion standard cubic feet of gas, but 700 million standard cubic feet of it is burned daily as a result of the lack of optimal investment over the past decades.
