Shafaq News/ The deputy head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc in the Iraqi parliament, Mulla Karim Shakur, confirmed on Wednesday that the presidential dispute between the two main Kurdish parties will not affect the strategic alliance between them, indicating that the opportunity for understanding on the position and resolving differences still exists.
Shakur told Shafaq News Agency, "The National Union and the Democratic Party have linked them to a strategic alliance since 1992 in managing the Kurdistan Region in partnership with other Kurdish parties, and that the dispute over the position of the President of the Republic will not distance the Union from the Democratic Party."
He added that "there is a second opportunity for understandings and solving outstanding problems between the party - the Democratic Party - and the electi - the Patriotic Union - to resolve the dispute with the presidency of the republic," noting that "the position is from the share of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and the Kurds in general exclusively."
Shakur noted that opening the door for candidacy again for the position of President of the Republic is a "legal and constitutional violation" (Article 70 of the Constitution stipulates that the position of the President of the Republic be decided within 30 days after the first parliament session), and the Constitution did not speak or explain the legal provisions after the end of the constitutional period for the election. Yesterday, Tuesday, the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, decided to reopen the nomination for the position of President of the Republic, after the failure to hold the session designated for this purpose.
