    The information / Diyala …
A government official confirmed, on Friday, the commencement of digging a trough in the bottom of a border dam in eastern Iraq.
The director of the Mandali district agency (90 km east of Baquba) Mazen Al-Khuzaei said in an interview with "The Information", that "the water resources cadres have begun digging a trough in the interior of the Mandali Dam in order to collect the waters of the recent floods and transfer them to their exits within the framework of the second phase of draining the lake's interior."
Al-Khuzaie added, "The draining of the lake represents the first stage of the implementation of the Mandali Dam rescue program by allowing the mine-clearing teams of the Ministry of Defense to comb the dam's interior, and then give the green light for the work of the water resources teams to raise thousands of tons of mud deposits that devoured the bulk of the dam." The dam’s ability to store torrential water.
He pointed out that "the completion of the Mandali Dam rescue program will make it able to store approximately 3 million m3 of water, a quantity that fills part of the needs of liquefaction plants in securing drinking water, especially in the dry seasons."
The muddy deposits paralyzed the Mandali Dam’s ability to store water for several years.” Ended 25 February
