    Today, Friday, the Ministry of Commerce issued a clarification regarding the number of meals in the food basket.
    The ministry said in a statement received by Al-Maalouma Agency, that "in response to the statements of some deputies about the number of ration card meals, we would like to clarify that the ration card is distributed to six meals to citizens, and we have repeatedly demanded to increase its allocations."
    And she stressed, "The allocation for the ration card since 2015 is half of what was allocated for the year, and the ministry distributed six meals and tried during the past years to distribute additional meals by exploiting the low prices in the global market, and after the decision (160) of the Council of Ministers that authorized the General Company for Food Trade. Contracting with private sector companies through the food basket project and for seven basic terms.
    She indicated that "the ministry is committed to this decision and is also committed to the allocations, but more than once it demanded in official books to increase the allocations to become the meals of the food basket throughout the year and we worked hard to invest these amounts for the purpose of adding new meals, and we succeeded in preparing the flour for ten meals and sometimes 11 meals."
    The ministry spoke about correspondence with the Ministry of Finance, that it “explained the need for the amounts allocated to the ration card to be three billion five hundred million dollars, to secure 12 months of the seven food items, and that the attached table confirms that the trade addressed the Ministry of Finance for the purpose of securing the amounts for the processing of the ration card items and from Including the meals that the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister instructed to give to citizens during the month of Ramadan, which we are now trying with great efforts to distribute at the specified times, despite the force majeure that occurred as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the high price rates to record levels.
    And she stressed, according to the statement, "it stands with all the efforts of the deputies to support the vocabulary of the ration card through new allocations, but we would like to clarify that everyone who thinks that there is a failure in the issue of the ration card, the ministry does not bear this aspect for reasons related to the financial allocations related to the general budget, being the concerned authority that The assignments are decided.
    She pointed out that “preparing the food basket for one meal needs $274 million, while what is allocated to the Ministry is only one billion six hundred and forty-four million dollars, and by dividing the amount by the amount allocated for each meal, the ministry can prepare only six meals, while the preparation of 12 months needs double the amount allocated. in the budget.
    She stressed that "based on Cabinet Resolution 459 and the support of the Prime Minister, we have provided 300 billion dinars from the Ministry's self-resources to support the food basket, purchase quantities of wheat and pay part of the dues of farmers and farmers," stressing that "the Council of Ministers was supportive of the ministry's work and efforts in all fields, especially the file of Ration card".
    She continued by saying that “Decision (160) of the Council of Ministers for the year 2021 organized the ration card and increased its vocabulary from four to seven meals, but also the general budget allocations did not allow an increase in the number of meals, but there was a radical change in the quality of materials and the stability of processing operations in all regions of the country and the Council of Ministers discussed Several times, the ration card has been supported and the people included in it are determined, and there are committees studying this issue in order to achieve the inclusion of the poorest families, and to increase the quantity and quality of foodstuffs.
    And she expressed her hope, "through the new House of Representatives, in the event that its sessions are completed and the budget is approved in the demand for an increase in the allocations covered by the ration card system."
    She concluded by saying: "Our doors are open to the deputies to verify the amounts spent on the ration card and the quantities supplied to citizens in all regions of the country, and we have transparency in dealing with the file or any other files related to the work of our ministry."
