Shafaq News/ The President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani recalled, on Monday, the visit of the Pope of the Vatican to the city of Erbil, which he considered historic.
Barzani said in a tweet to him, "With respect and appreciation, we recall the Pope's historic visit to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq last year, and on this occasion we assure everyone that Kurdistan will remain a safe haven for peaceful coexistence, acceptance of others and tolerance."
In March of last year, the Pope made a historic visit, the first for a Vatican Pope to the country at all, and it lasted for several days.
The Pope celebrated a mass in St. Joseph Cathedral in the capital, Baghdad, the first of its kind, and a mass mass in the "Franso Hariri" stadium attended by about 10,000 people, and another in Nineveh province on the ruins of the war with ISIS.
He also visited Iraq's highest Shiite authority, Ali al-Sistani, in the latter's office in the city of Najaf, and participated in a unified interfaith prayer in the historic city of Ur in Dhi Qar Governorate.
