Shafaq News/ On Saturday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the French and British diplomatic missions in Baghdad, stressing the need to end the war in Ukraine.
In a statement received by Shafak News Agency, the ministry said that Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed, with the French ambassador accredited to Iraq Eric Chevalier, the bilateral relations between the two countries, economic issues and regional developments.
The statement added that the two sides also "discussed developments in the region of common interest, and discussed the developments of the Ukrainian-Russian war," noting that the Iraqi foreign minister "stressed the need to make efforts to restore peace and ensure a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine."
The Foreign Ministry statement continued, "During the meeting, the political and security situations were discussed, and the efforts made to expedite the formation of the next government, and the minister stressed that the national forces are intensifying their dialogues to provide the necessary atmosphere to preserve the constitutional timings for forming the government, and to set a road map for the success of its work."
The two sides also reviewed, according to the statement, "the progress of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Paris, and ways to strengthen them, and discuss the latest developments in the regional and international arena, and discuss cooperation and partnership between the two countries in various fields."
On the other hand, Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received British Ambassador to Iraq Mark Bryson Richardson.
A statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Shafak News Agency said that "during the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance prospects for cooperation in all fields to serve mutual interests, in addition to developing economic and commercial cooperation and joint work in facing challenges."
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry statement added, "The developments in the region of common interest were also discussed, and the two sides discussed the developments of the Ukrainian-Russian war, and the minister affirmed that Iraq supports intensifying diplomatic efforts to reach a political solution, end military operations, work on calm and restraint, and respect the principles of international law." the Charter of the United Nations, and the sovereignty of states over their territories.
The two ministers also discussed, according to the statement, "the latest political developments in Iraq and efforts to form the new Iraqi government," while Minister Hussein stressed that "the new government must gain the confidence of the House of Representatives in accordance with democratic principles and constitutional frameworks."
