It opens the door to similar cases, as is the case with the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Facebook)
Someone may object when we raise Iraq’s need for an international resolution condemning its occupation in 2003, saying that this occupation is the one that paved the way for the end of the dictatorship that has perched on the hearts of Iraqis for many years, and that it is what paved the way for the establishment of a democratic system, the first of its kind in the region, and our answer to that is that these two Two things differ. The success of the invasion by overthrowing the dictatorial regime and establishing a democratic system in its place does not cancel the fact of the invasion that took place without the approval of international institutions, not only because it leaves these institutions in a state of dispersion and loss when dealing with similar cases, but also because it opens the door to other similar cases. As with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which came after Russia saw that such a thing was also possible, as long as America had escaped international accountability for what it had done in Iraq.
The issuance of a resolution condemning the American invasion of Iraq does not prevent even the establishment of the best relations between Iraq and America if all the related matters of the invasion were settled in terms of compensation and others, as was the case when the British withdrew from America after the war of independence in the eighteenth century, as that war and war did not prevent That followed between 1812 and 1814, building the best relations between the two countries, as happened between Algeria and the countries of the Maghreb, which, despite being subjected to the French invasion and waging a long war of independence against it, did not prevent the building of a strong partnership between them and in several areas, and this is still Countries The French language is an official language, while its relationship with France has turned into an example for other countries to follow. Therefore, the US invasion will not also prevent building strong relations with America as long as these relations serve the Iraqi interest.
The need for such a decision stems not only from the need to take a unified international position regarding the cases of invasion that occur from time to time, but also because of the importance of this to arrange the conditions of the Iraqi state, which the invasion made it scattered among those who saw it as a salvation that the country was waiting for after it had lived for decades under the shadows of tyranny. despotism and instability, and among those who see it as an aggression against the country’s independence, sovereignty and stability, in addition to those who do not have a clear position on the invasion or do not settle on a specific position on it for many reasons.
Such a decision would make the country one position on the invasion and free it from the pressures that might make its decision compass not resting on a certain direction. We saw a government with a negative attitude towards it. We saw another government with a positive attitude. We do not forget that this is also important in delineating Iraq’s relations with other countries, including its neighboring countries. This applies to its position on international and other resolutions.
