Today, Sunday, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers confirmed that work is continuing to end conflicts on the route of the suspended train project in Baghdad, in preparation for its inclusion in the budget and the start of the implementation process through two French and Korean companies .
The secretariat’s spokesman Haider Majid said, “The suspended train project has been on the shoulders of the Baghdad governorate since 2014, but due to some administrative, technical and legal overlaps and problems, the project was not completed,” noting that “three months ago, the issue was activated, and the General Secretariat took the matter seriously.” ".
Majeed said in an interview with the official news agency, "The Ministry of Transport and the Municipality of Baghdad are the two bodies responsible for the project, and two weeks ago there was (there) a meeting with the French company Alstom and Hyundai as the implementers ."
With regard to the steps to include the project in the budget before starting its implementation, Majid affirmed, “The Secretary-General, Hamid Al-Ghazi, directed the Baghdad Municipality and the Ministry of Transport to form a joint team to follow up the conflicts within the suspended train line. The concerned authorities were given a period of 10 days to submit a final report and recommendations for approval to be completed.” Then the stage of preparing the designs and the stage of inclusion within the investment budget .”
And he continued, "The Ministry of Planning is working on the issue, and it is very serious, and the Iraqi government is seeking to direct this project, because it is one of the strategic projects aimed at relieving traffic jams ."
