    Baghdad / Obelisk: The Ministry of Interior revealed, on Thursday, June 30, 2022, the outcome of its security operations to combat drug trafficking during the first half of 2022, while confirming Iraq's cooperation with regional countries and Interpol to deter traffickers and pursue smuggling networks.
    Media Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the ministry, Bilal Sobhi, said in a statement followed by Al-Masala that the directorate possesses an integrated database on the methods, methods and areas of entry for narcotic substances, and the most prevalent substances in Iraq, indicating that the largest target group is young people aged between 18-30 years.
    He added that the Directorate's detachments carry out major security operations and campaigns in all governorates of Iraq, in cooperation with all security services to pursue traffickers, and provide many martyrs and wounded to fight this crime.
    He stressed that the security operations during the first half of this year resulted in the arrest of more than 6,800 accused of trade, promotion and abuse, in addition to the seizure of nearly 5 million Captagon pills and psychotropic substances, and more than 170 kilograms of narcotics.
    He stressed the need for everyone to cooperate in order to eradicate this scourge that targets the fabric of Iraqi society, in addition to the importance of the media and civil society organizations' cooperation in raising awareness and clarifying the dangers of drugs to human health.
    He stressed that the educational role of the family, school and university is very necessary to immunize individuals from entering the drug tunnel, especially in preventing mixing with those who promote this scourge.
    He stressed the importance of the citizens' role in providing intelligence that allows access to criminals, especially by calling the toll-free hotline of the General Directorate of Narcotics (178), adding that the caller's identity will remain confidential.
    He pointed out that there is international cooperation with Iraq through the Directorate of Arab and International Cooperation to Combat Drugs, and cooperation with regional countries, stressing the existence of memoranda in the process of being completed with neighboring countries.
    He stated that our database indicates that most of the materials enter through the unofficial roads and outlets through the border strip, that is, through the marshes as well as through the desert road in the western side, which drug smuggling gangs use with the latest smuggling methods, where they started using even gliders To transport narcotics.
    He pointed out that the database indicates the presence of international dealers with arms from local dealers backed by gangs for drug smuggling and promotion in Iraq, and the goal is financial gain.
