A Kurdish farmer from Kirkuk appealed to the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to save the Kurds of Kirkuk from the practices of Arabs coming from the rest of Iraq to the province towards them, pointing out that the arriving Arabs terrorized the Kurdish farmers on their lands.

Problems are repeated between Kurdish and Arab farmers who come to Kirkuk, because of the ownership of land in the Kurdish areas of the province and the right to dispose of it.

The brought Arabs continue to prevent Kurdish farmers and shepherds from cultivating their lands and caring for their livestock within their areas, which led to a group of Kurdish farmers gathering in Balkaneh village to protest the obstacles placed in front of them to prevent them from cultivating their lands.

The peasants are accused of being affiliated with the Iraqi army of preventing them, as Kurdish peasants, from practicing agriculture on their lands and appropriating it by Arab immigrants. They said that a military commander in the army forbids agriculture on Kurdish lands in the villages of Balkaneh and Sharnakha.

Today, Wednesday (July 13, 2022), the protesting Kurdish peasants in Kirkuk formed a committee to meet and dialogue with the army officials supervising the area, but the officials refused to receive them and talk with them.

An elderly Kurdish farmer, through the Rudaw Media Network, appealed to the President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani and the Kurdish leaders to save them from the practices of the Arabs arriving in Kirkuk, and said: “I demand the government of Kurdistan, President Barzani, and Nechirvan Barzani, to save the Kurdish people in Kirkuk as soon as possible, the Arabs arriving are terrorizing us.” .

While another farmer, who participated in the protest, confirmed that “they told us that we cannot irrigate our farms, or use tractors and agricultural machines, it seems that the Arabs are not satisfied with our doing our work,” adding that “work has been stopped in the villages of Sharnakha and Balkanah, where the Korean farmers cannot irrigate their lands.” “.

One of the farmers explained the position of the protesters with him, and said: “We gathered here, and we formed a committee to sit with the army, but the army refused to sit with us and told us that the decision was directed to them from a higher authority, from the Iraqi Ministry of Defense,” stressing that a brigade commander in the army went to Sharnakha with the intention of A farmer's field.

Earlier, Member of Parliament for Kirkuk, Najwa Hamid, revealed to Rudaw Media Network, that “Arabization operations in Kirkuk increased significantly after the events of October 2017,” referring to “the seizure of lands with the support of the armed forces and by using the law in favor of the Arabs and against the Kurds and Turkmen.” .

Najwa Hamid said: "According to the statistics that we have, more than 27,000 dunums of Kurdish agricultural lands have been seized in the Kirkuk regions, especially in the regions of Sarkaran, Daquq, Topzawa, Laylan and Turklan."
