The Erbil Agricultural Bank in the city of Erbil is one of the banks that constantly provides full facilities to farmers and farmers. After 2003, the bank was reactivated by a decision of the Council of Ministers to serve peasants and farmers.

After the formation of the ninth ministerial cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the decision to exempt 15% of farmers' loans and interest accrued on loans, some of the money granted to farmers and farmers as loans through the bank was recovered.

The decision to forgive 15% of agricultural loans

In 2009, an amount of $100 million was allocated to agricultural banks in the Kurdistan Region, part of which was granted as loans to peasants and farmers in the province through the Erbil Agricultural Bank for the benefit of peasants and farmers and to strengthen the agricultural sector in general.

Mahdi Khaled Ali, director of the Erbil Agricultural Bank, told the Department of Information and Information that after the financing of agricultural banks by the Council of Ministers from 2009 to 2013, the Ministry of Finance allocated 72 billion and 496 million and 59 thousand and 600 dinars for agricultural loans, and 72 billion and 479 million and 985 thousand were provided. And 600 dinars in loans to 2,980 agricultural projects, as peasants and farmers in Erbil governorate benefited from them.

According to Mahdi Khaled, the process of recovering loans was rather slow, and by the end of August 2022, only 53 billion and 825 million and 661 thousand dinars were recovered by farmers and farmers, which represents 74.26% of the debt, while the value of the loans incurred on Farmers 18 billion and 654 million and 324 thousand dinars, or 20.74% of loans.

However, since the ninth ministerial formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government assumed its duties, and with the aim of supporting farmers, a decision was announced to exempt and waive 15% of agricultural loans, which led to solving most of the problems, as 500 farmers and farmers benefited, and the total exemption amounted to 1.6 billion One million and 750 thousand dinars, in addition to the complete exemption of the accumulated interests amounting to one billion and 804 million and 374 thousand dinars, which were owed by the peasants and farmers, which is a great achievement for the ninth formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government in helping farmers and farmers by exempting them from 15% of the loans.

Ratio and numbers

By analyzing the value of these loans and comparing them with the recovered funds, the number and types of projects and the amounts allocated to the projects can be presented as follows:

The number of projects that received loans is 2980 projects.
The number of projects whose loans have been repaid is 2207 projects.
The number of projects whose loans have not been paid is 773.

Project type

– 899 artesian wells projects: 19.83% of the loans were allocated and 87.64% were recovered.
– 778 Murshat projects: allocating 23.64% of loans and recovering 75.30%.
