    Economy News-Baghdad
The Minister of Municipalities and Tourism in the Kurdistan Region, Sasan Awni, announced on Saturday that the regional government has allocated more than 35 billion Iraqi dinars to face natural disasters and floods.
In a speech during a scientific conference held by the regional government on finding solutions to floods in the capital, Erbil, the minister said that climate changes, the water crisis and rising temperatures and the resulting effects have an impact on what is on the ground, and pose a direct or indirect threat.
He added that the impact of these factors has become clear for years on the country, neighboring countries and the region, and caused natural disasters represented by the drought that hit the southern marshes, Lake Sawa, and the dwindling water levels in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in addition to other water sources on the ground, as well as the devastating floods that come on Green and land, which caused severe damage in several countries, as we are currently seeing.
The minister went on to say that the impact of climate changes in the Kurdistan Region has become clear during the past two years, especially drought and the decline in groundwater levels, as well as heavy rains that fall in a short time and in a limited area, causing floods that led to casualties and severe material damage.
Awni also indicated that "it is true that climatic changes in the first degree and the geography of Kurdistan in the second degree were the factor in the occurrence of floods, but the failure and mistakes in the implementation of some projects and abuses on rivers and natural water courses were another factor in the occurrence of floods and caused human and material damage to the residents of the capital." Erbil and its environs.
He continued by saying that the Kurdistan Regional Government has allocated more than 35 billion Iraqi dinars to the departments and institutions concerned with the issue of floods with the aim of re-establishing and repairing projects to mitigate the impact of the effects of those natural accidents.
