The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament called today, Thursday, for a new session to elect a new President of the Republic next Monday, after no candidate could obtain two-thirds of the votes of the deputies in today's session.

Lebanese media said that "the Lebanese parliament failed to elect a president after it was not possible for any candidate to obtain two-thirds of the parliament's votes."

According to the media, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament called for a new session to elect a new President of the Republic next Monday.

Parliament failed to elect the President of the Republic in the session of last September 29, because no candidate could obtain two-thirds of the votes of the deputies.

The session to elect the president requires the presence of two-thirds of the 128 members of Parliament.

This is the third time that Parliament has failed to elect a new head of state, after no clear winner appeared during the first session on September 29 and the session on 10/13/2022 as well.
