    Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Commerce announced that it has addressed the Council of Ministers about central markets, while noting that the price hike in private consumer associations has reached five times.
    The director general of supermarkets in the ministry, Zahra Al-Kilani, said that "the founding statement of the supermarkets stipulates that it is not permissible to open a consumer cooperative society except through the central markets."
    She explained, "The prices in the private consumer associations are high, as the rate of increase has reached 5 times the real price, while the purpose of establishing the consumer cooperative is to support the Iraqi consumer."
    Al-Kilani called for "the importance of placing consumer associations under the umbrella of central markets in order to monitor sales operations and identify them in accordance with regulations."
    She added, "The central markets have prepared communications for the Council of Ministers in order to activate the founding statement, especially since most citizens and employees suffer from high prices in consumer associations."
    And she continued, "There is currently no outlet for government consumer associations affiliated with central markets," noting "the efforts to return central markets and then work to restore consumer associations."
