Iraq International Book Fair, in its third session, hosts 350 publishing houses

The activities of the third session of the Iraq International Book Fair will start in the first week of next December, sponsored by the “Al-Mada” Foundation for Media, Culture and Arts.
Al-Mada Foundation for Media, Culture and Arts moved to Baghdad after 2003, after it was based in Damascus.
It is expected that the exhibition will be in its third most important session in Baghdad, in terms of its size and the quality of titles participating in it.
More than 350 Iraqi and Arab publishing houses from 20 countries will participate in the exhibition, and the “Al-Mada Pavilion” will be the largest pavilion in the exhibition, due to the volume of production that the Cultural Foundation annually presents, in addition to the “Al-Mada” distinguished location between Iraqi and Arab publishing houses.
The third session of the Iraq International Book Fair was named after (Hadi Al-Alawi 1932-1998), an Islamic thinker, historian and Iraqi linguist.
According to the exhibition director, Ihab Al-Qaisi, Al-Alawi was chosen “because of the role he played over fifty years in the interest in research and study in the modern Arab and Islamic scientific renaissance, and for his uniqueness among contemporary Iraqi and Arab intellectuals with his ideas about the East, and his in-depth knowledge of Islamic and Chinese civilization.”
Al-Qaisi indicated that “discussive and critical sessions will be devoted to Hadi Al-Alawi’s thought and his creative biography, throughout the days of the exhibition, in which specialists in this field will participate, and a bust of the celebrated person will be erected.”
It is noteworthy that the publishing house aims, through this step, to introduce the current generation to Al-Alawi's writings, and to provide an opportunity for reading them. Therefore, Dar Al-Mada has reprinted all his writings to display them in the exhibition.
The exhibition program includes many intellectual and cultural sessions in which intellectuals and writers from Iraq and other Arab countries contribute, poetry sessions, new book signing parties, and various artistic parties, in addition to seminars dealing with the political movement in Iraq, and the most prominent developments in the political situation.
Iraqi cultural and artistic institutions will also participate in the exhibition through their programs and special pavilions in which they display their cultural products, including the Iraqi Scientific Academy, the Union of Writers and Writers in Iraq, the House of Cultural Affairs and other institutions.
