The Baghdad International Airport administration explained the reasons for closing the airport runway for two hours.
A statement from the airport management stated, “The Baghdad International Airport administration would like to make it clear to the public and travelers, by following up on providing all the necessary facilities for one of the Iraqi Airways planes, when one of its wheels was subjected to a sudden crash during its take-off to Medina, and in light of that, the airport runway was closed.” for two hours in order to complete the maintenance work of the aircraft.
And the airport administration confirmed that it had removed the passengers, under the direct supervision of the airport director, Ali Jawad Kazem, from the plane safely and returned them to the passenger terminal for the purpose of completing maintenance as quickly as possible, and securing another plane for the purpose of resuming the flight for travelers towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
