    A member of the Agriculture, Water and Marshes Committee, Rafik Hashem Al-Salhi, called on Monday to benefit from Chinese experiences in combating desertification, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation with China to combat environmental phenomena such as desertification and drought.  
    Al-Salihi said, "Iraq is going through dangerous stages due to desertification and water scarcity that threatens the lives of citizens, so it requires turning towards developed countries and their experiences." 
    He added, "The past years witnessed a number of Iraqi cities growing in the levels of drought in the rivers, and consequently the negative effects that this had on farmers and farmers exposed food security to serious risks." 
    He pointed out that "many agricultural areas in the country have become green, and therefore the government and its concerned ministers must launch a campaign to combat desertification and solve the problem of drought by benefiting from Chinese experiences," stressing that "the House of Representatives is working on enacting laws to combat desertification and stop forced displacement due to water shortage ",. 
    The Agriculture, Water and Marshes Committee confirmed the imminence of drafting desertification and irrigation laws, after their approval had been delayed during the past parliamentary sessions.
