Today, Sunday, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, explained the possibility of extending the opening hours of the Green Zone, and while he indicated that there is a plan to remove other controls, he stressed that the step of removing the army from the cities is better than leaving it.
In a press statement, Rasool said, "Opening the Green Zone to traffic is a good step, as Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani follows up on the smallest details, including traffic jams," noting that "opening the Green Zone contributes to reducing traffic congestion."
He added, "The Baghdad operations have lifted a number of controls and opened roads that will contribute to reducing momentum and lead to smooth traffic," noting that "choosing green opening times, since this time is considered the peak in the movement of employees and students."
He continued, "It is possible to present the timing of opening the Green Zone, but that is due to the military leadership that appreciates the situation," explaining that "carriage wheels have a special gate in the Green Zone, especially those that have work in the region."
He stated, "There is a plan to raise other controls in Baghdad, and we are working step by step gradually," explaining that "the security situation in the country is stable and very good."
Regarding handing over the security file to the Ministry of Interior, Rasool stated that "the Ministry of Interior has made great strides in imposing security and stability," noting that "the step of removing the army from the cities is better than leaving it."
He stressed that "the first step in the file of handing over cities to the Ministry of Interior took place after selecting a number of provinces, and this process will gradually move to other provinces," pointing to "the importance of supporting the entrances and exits of Baghdad with sonar and sniffer dogs."
