Al-Sadr is in a “period of patience” over the coordination framework, and the latter agrees to the survival of non-combat US forces

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
A leader in the Sadrist movement criticized what he described as "falsifying facts" practiced by Shiite forces against the previous government, especially in the case of the US forces.
The leader hints that the leader of the movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, may intervene at the "appropriate time" in the political scene, but he is now in the stage of "patience."
It seems that the coordination framework has retracted its well-known escalation against the US forces, after statements described as “rare” by Prime Minister Mohamed Al-Sudani regarding the presence of those forces.
And the Shiite coalition started talking about "approval" of the survival of non-combat forces, while one of the most prominent leaders of the coordination framework now had earlier refused the Americans' survival, even if as advisers.
The coordination framework has been living for weeks in sharp divisions - which the framework in turn denies - that have reached the threat of splits within Nuri al-Maliki's team (State of Law) and the resignation of ministers.
According to what was leaked, Iranian General Ismail Qaani, who arrived in Baghdad two days ago, started contacts with the Shiite forces to remedy the crisis.
The day before yesterday, Iranian media published pictures of the head of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Baghdad, and then his meeting with the leader of the Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim.
A leader in al-Sadr's movement said in an interview with (Al-Mada) that "the conflict of the coordination framework is more economic than it is political. There is competition over contracts and sites that have revenues."
Leaks had indicated that Oil Minister Abd al-Ghani Hayyan, Maliki's candidate, had submitted his resignation because Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq imposed contracts on the ministry without the minister's approval.
And the Sadrist leader, who asked not to be named, added: "We were warning against destroying what is left of the country and we left them the authority and waited for what they would do. The Leader (meaning Muqtada al-Sadr) is in the stage of patience and will intervene at the appropriate time."
The movement had recently resumed unified Friday prayers after a hiatus since the armed clashes that took place last August inside the Green Zone.
And the leader in the movement considers that “the coordination framework is falsifying facts against the previous government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi because of the dollar issue and the survival of the American forces.”
The Shiite alliance comments on the crisis of the high exchange rate of the dollar on the policies of the Al-Kazemi government, and accuses it of not being clear about the issue of the presence of US forces.
In an interview with Al-Mada, Wael Al-Rikabi, a member of the coordination framework, denies reports of divisions, defection of deputies, or withdrawal of ministers.
Al-Rikabi says, "The coordination framework is supportive of the Sudanese government, but the latter must provide answers regarding his recent statements."
The Wall Street Journal, in an interview published last Sunday, said that Prime Minister Mohamed al-Sudani had defended the presence of US forces in his country and did not set a timetable for their withdrawal.
Al-Rikabi, a member of State of Law, notes that "the coordination framework does not have a hostile stance towards the United States, but it rejects the presence of American combat forces."
At the end of 2021, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, the former prime minister, announced the end of combat missions from Iraq.
However, a member of the coordination framework says, "Al-Kazemi was not clear and evaded questions about the number, location, and tasks of the remaining forces."
Regarding the policy of the Shiite alliance now with the American presence, Al-Rikabi asserts: “We agreed during the formation of the State Administration Coalition that the survival of the forces depends on a government-led dialogue with the American side.”
Al-Sudani had said in an interview with a German agency during his visit to Berlin last week that he had a mandate from the political forces to determine the tasks of the US forces.
And the coordination framework affirms that "with non-combat US forces remaining for training and consultation," according to al-Rikabi's words, which indicates that "this is the position of even the factions or the resistance."
However, in late 2021, Hadi al-Amiri had rejected the presence of American forces, even if in the capacity of trainers and advisors.
Al-Amiri, who is the leader of the Al-Fateh Alliance, said at a conference to commemorate the victims of the liberation of Al-Dhuluiya in Camp Ashraf in Diyala: “We have been patient for a long time and endured a lot for the exit of foreign forces from Iraq, and we agreed after all the procrastination that the end of this year be the date for the exit of all American combat forces from the land of Iraq, and this is a goal.” It cannot be negotiated.”
He continued, "We do not accept that the sovereignty of Iraq be incomplete, and we do not accept the survival of a single soldier, neither at Ain al-Assad base nor in Harir, neither training nor advisory forces."
Al-Mada had revealed earlier that Al-Sudani obtained a mandate from the factions to improve its image in front of the United States in return for a pledge to stop the attacks on the embassy.
In the past three years, these factions had carried out 120 attacks with 300 missiles, explosive devices and drones on diplomatic missions, Baghdad airport and camps.
Wael al-Rikabi says, "We are waiting for the prime minister to clarify, in a meeting of the coordination framework, the numbers, locations, and tasks of the American forces."
And that "Iraq will officially request the survival of forces for training, because our weapons and military equipment are from the United States."
Al-Rikabi added, "Some may think that Al-Sudani's moves are similar to what Al-Kazemi did, but in fact they differ in content."
