The Ministry of Health is close to signing an investment contract, in coordination with the Syndicate of Pharmacists, to price medicines in the private sector, while a number of facilities have been offered for the establishment of pharmaceutical factories inside the country.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Al-Hasnawi, told Al-Sabah: The drug pricing project is integrated and ready in the popular clinics department and with an investment contract with the private sector. And he indicated that the ministry is not concerned with the establishment of pharmaceutical factories, but rather with encouraging their establishment through procedures to be agreed upon, such as registration, factory licensing, examination of medicines, contracts, and submission of proposals, including reducing customs duties for raw materials and machinery that enter the national industry, tightening procedures at border crossings, and raising the tax rate. And customs duties on imported medicines that have similar medicines being produced inside the country.
And he continued that there are 625 medicines in the basic list of the ministry, 50 of which are rare and 130 are local medicines, expressing his hope for more national production to meet the local need and reduce imports. Medication and monitoring.
