    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, Ali Al-Moayyad, confirmed today, Thursday (July 25, 2024), that his commission is working to sign strategic agreements with international companies to bridge the digital gap in the field of cybersecurity.
Al-Muayyad said during the ceremony held by the American company "Fortinet", according to a statement by the ministry received by "Baghdad Today", that "the Authority's participation comes within the framework of its openness to the international private sector, especially the leading American companies in this field, which enhances cooperation between the two sides and benefits all parties."
He added, "The current government headed by Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani pays exceptional attention to the issue of digital transformation and cybersecurity, and places the protection of data resulting from this comprehensive transformation at the top of its priorities. This interest reflects a strategic vision aimed at enhancing Iraq's capabilities in this vital field."
Al-Moayyad added, “The Communications and Media Commission realizes that in the digital age we live in, electronic information and data have become the backbone of all economic, social and security operations and activities. Therefore, protecting and securing this data from cyber threats is of utmost importance to ensure business continuity and maintain trust between institutions and citizens.”
He pointed out that "the Authority is working at an increasing pace to spread digital culture among all segments of Iraqi society, by organizing training courses and workshops to raise awareness of the importance of cybersecurity and teaching the mechanisms for the optimal use of technology, with the aim of building an aware digital society that can confront cyber challenges efficiently and competently."
Al-Moayyad explained that “the Authority is about to sign a strategic agreement with a number of globally superior companies aimed at bridging the digital gap in the field of cybersecurity and training students and government employees to develop their technical skills in this field, and even granting them accredited certificates.”
He explained that "the cooperation with  Fortinet and other advanced international companies confirms the Authority's keenness to benefit from modern expertise and technologies, and is part of the plans adopted by the Authority to build strategic partnerships that contribute to transferring knowledge and developing local capabilities in the field of cybersecurity."
