Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad announced today, Thursday (July 25, 2024), an increase in social benefit amounts from $5 million to $10 million.
Al-Sawad said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Today, a street was opened in the Abu Sakheer area in Basra Governorate, with a length of approximately five kilometers," stressing "working to provide the best services to citizens after increasing the amounts of social benefits."
He added, "We are working on completing road, school, health centre, hospital and other projects, and we have directed the rapid completion of the projects to serve the citizens."
He pointed out that "today a model school was opened in Al-Zubair district with a capacity of 22 classrooms in addition to halls, laboratories, a library, and others," noting that "this school will contribute to accommodating a large number of students in Al-Zubair district and we will work to establish other schools according to international specifications."
It is noteworthy that social benefits are the amounts allocated by oil companies for each oil field development contract, which is subject to the powers of the oil-producing governorates and under the supervision of the audit and financial control departments.
Earlier, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani announced that the ministry had submitted a request to the central government to benefit from social benefits to establish real infrastructure projects, not patchwork ones. He pointed out that the disbursement of these amounts would be subject to the supervision of the relevant departments in the Ministry of Finance .
