Parliamentary Committee: Basra Oil incurred 10 billion dinars as delay fines

The Basra Oil Company incurred a loss of 10 billion dinars to the oil companies operating in the province due to the delay in its equipment at the ports.
A member of the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee in the House of Representatives, Kazem Al-Touki, told Al-Sabah that the committee had previously visited companies operating in Basra Governorate, in addition to ports and customs, and the committee had identified problems that could be solved through the Ministries of Oil and Finance or other ministries.
He added that the committee was briefed on the problem of customs and the delay of containers of foreign oil companies operating in Iraq for a month or two and that they incur financial fines for illogical reasons, indicating that those companies have a government decision to exclude their materials from that.
Al-Touki added that when the committee inquired about the issue, it was found that this decision is specific to the ports for the purpose of material benefit for the investor, noting that the committee made sure that the problem was resolved after the committee discussed with customs, but at the same time a committee was formed by the Ministry of Finance that represents an extra link to delay the procedures and the goal. Among them is the waste of public money, and accordingly, the Basra Oil Company alone incurred 10 billion dinars as delay fines that it paid to the operating companies due to the delay of its materials in the ports.
He confirmed that the Prime Minister met with the committee and asked it to speed up the process by receiving the goods from the companies, and there is no justification for the delay.
