Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The United States welcomed Iraq's external openness and move towards energy self-sufficiency.
“The United States welcomes the visit of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Baghdad,” said Adam Hodge, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, in a statement, stressing that “his country fully supports Iraq’s sovereignty, independence, and its increasing integration into the Gulf Cooperation Council and the wider Arab region.” And Iraq moved over the past year towards self-sufficiency in energy through steps to connect its energy network with the networks of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan.
He added, "The two infrastructure projects related to linking Iraq's energy grid with the grids of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan were among the components of President Biden's visit to the Middle East last year, and are now being achieved with active facilitation and support from the United States. In addition, the historic project that was signed in Earlier this year with Total Energy with US and Qatari companies includes natural gas capture, a project that serves the needs of the Iraqi people while reducing emissions.”
And he continued: “We welcome the active support of Sheikh Al-Thani, the Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani and other leaders in the region and the Iraqi people. We also welcome the participation of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, in these discussions to further strengthen coordination between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.”
