At a time when the competent parliamentary committee denied the intention to establish another airport in the capital, it confirmed that the solution to the problems that Baghdad airport is full of is to form a company to manage its business affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, with contracts with international companies specialized in the fields of services, to make its work a success.
A member of the Parliamentary Transportation Committee, Representative Hoda Al-Bajari, said in an interview with Al-Sabah: There is no current idea or direction to develop or build a new airport in the capital, adding that although Baghdad International Airport is the main interface for his capital and is supposed to be a civilized interface for the country, however, it is full of many problems that the committee had previously diagnosed, which contributed to maintaining the air embargo on Iraq until now.
And she added that the most important diagnosed problems are the deterioration of ground services and weak security, in addition to the delay in the arrival of bags or their arrival being torn or damaged, in addition to non-compliance with the take-off and landing times of the aircraft, in addition to the poor quality of the runways, and the quality of the food provided at the airport is not commensurate with their exaggerated prices, in addition to the fact that the health services need to be completely rehabilitated.
Al-Bajari indicated that the decision to separate airports from the Civil Aviation Authority will come into effect soon, indicating that the latter is a supervisory authority, and therefore it is not one of its tasks to manage airports, pointing out that the solution is to form a company to manage the work of airports affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, which the latter must end these problems by contracting with companies specialized in the aforementioned fields of services, for the success of its work.
For her part, the spokesman for the Ministry of Transport, Shatha Radhi, stated in a statement to "Al-Sabah" that Baghdad International Airport is not currently under the management of the Ministry of Transport, indicating that the Civil Aviation Authority is the authority responsible for it so far.
