One million Iraqis under the age of 15 are deprived of food, health and education

Statistics of the Ministry of Planning estimate that there are one million Iraqi children deprived of food, health and education, in addition to putting a percentage of those in work before they reach the required age, indicating that violence is generated from the phenomenon of child labor.
Donia Al-Shammari, head of the Parliamentary Women, Family and Childhood Committee, said, "We focus on laws that are in the interest of the child and everything that positively affects his education and what prevents him from working because of the economic factor of some families."
Al-Shammari added, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "Article 52 of the budget approved granting a child within the families covered by social care an amount of 30 thousand dinars for attending school," considering it "a factor encouraging families to oblige their children to education."
For his part, the spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, explained that "children represent a community segment of approximately 40% of it, as it is a fragile segment affected by the country's difficult conditions in recent years, represented by terrorism, epidemics and economic crises, which negatively affected children."
Al-Hindawi added to "Al-Sabah" that "one million children suffer from deprivation of food, health and education, in addition to putting 5% of them in work, and this also explains the violence that children are exposed to in society," usually that "poverty is the main reason for pushing families to her children
the job".
He pointed out that "the ministry is working on preparing a five-year strategy to combat poverty, preceded by the launch of the national document for population policy, which included a special axis on childhood and the rights and requirements of this segment," pointing out that "the financial grant for pupils and students is among the measures taken by the government to support the poor and enable them to complete their education, in addition to encouraging girls to complete their studies by providing the requirements for a decent life.”
On the other hand, Director of the Office of the Child Welfare Authority, Ghada Al-Rafi, believes that "the authority is the supreme national authority concerned with child protection in Iraq, and it is concerned with drawing up policies and laws and following up on programs of operational activities and strategies for early childhood."
Al-Rafi'i explained to "Al-Sabah" that "the second executive plan for the child protection policy for the years 2022 to 2025 included the establishment of the Central Statistical Organization, with the support of (UNICEF), a national platform for child data, which is available for viewing."
And she indicated that "the authority is currently working on implementing the second executive plan," indicating that the authority "was mandated to prepare a plan and follow up the implementation of the national strategy for early childhood development, as well as the Child Law, in cooperation with the concerned parliamentary committee."
