    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (October 10, 2023), the Federal Supreme Court confirmed that working in non-governmental organizations and unions does not conflict with a representative’s membership in the House of Representatives.
The judiciary media stated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “the interpretation of Article (49/Six) of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq for the year 2005, which stipulates that (it is not permissible to combine membership in the House of Representatives with any work, or any other official position), according to The court’s interpretive decision makes it clear that the representative is not permitted to undertake any official work during his term of office.”
She explained that “this work does not include other work that does not acquire official status, including work in non-governmental organizations, unions, or others, unless the competent authority decides to restrict or limit work in other unofficial work in accordance with a law or based on it, provided that this does not prejudice Restricting or limiting the essence of the right to work based on the text of Article (46) of the Constitution.”
She continued, "This was to prevent influence on the representative when exercising his parliamentary duties, and to enable him to devote himself to his duties and to strengthen his role in this field to preserve the prestige of the House of Representatives, which means that working in non-governmental organizations and unions does not conflict with the representative's membership in the House of Representatives."
