    The Director of the Contracts Department at the Basra Governorate Office, Iyad Mubarak, confirmed  today, Wednesday (October 11, 2023), the announcement of a tender for 6 municipalities during the next week, noting that “the delay in the announcement came due to studying the project, after “Baghdad Today” revealed the... Attempts to "hide" the tender of 6 municipalities in the governorate related to Al-Auja Road.
    Mubarak said in a written statement published on social networking sites and followed by “Baghdad Today,” that “the tender for 6 municipalities related to Al-Awja Road will be announced in the official newspapers, the bulletin board in the governorate, and the official website in the governorate office,” indicating that “the project was not announced in The previous period was due to studying the project and its requirements, which prevented it from being announced in the previous period.”
    At the same time, an informed source revealed that “an influential cleric in Basra put pressure on the relevant authorities in the governorate office to pass the project to one of his followers in secret, but the “Baghdad Today” agency exposed the matter and revealed it in public, which caused great embarrassment to the officials of the governorate office.
    Informed sources had indicated in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the infrastructure tenders for six municipalities in Basra Governorate are hidden and have not been announced, while contractors in the governorate confirmed that these municipalities have not announced their tenders for infrastructure projects, and they have called for an investigation.” Urgent in this regard, especially regarding the tender for Al-Auja Road in Abu Al-Khasib district. 
    Those in charge of the contracting companies indicated that granting these tenders to one of the contractors comes as a result of a relationship between him and the director of one of the government departments, and for this reason, the contractors are calling on the Prime Minister to send a committee to verify all these tenders and monitor the activities of the contractor and his companies.
    The contractors explained that the total cost of these tenders amounted to $17 billion and related to the construction of Al-Auja Road, and they were sold at a price lower than their real value to figures belonging to the so-called “whale lobby” of tenders, who are influential figures in the contracting sector, who control all infrastructure projects that Its value exceeds two billion dollars and reaches 500 billion Iraqi dinars.
