    The Independent High Electoral Commission has taken several new measures related to the elections, while approving the regulations for the process of electing the Kurdistan Regional Parliament.


    The Commission’s media office stated, in a statement received by Alsumaria News, that “the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission held a regular session on 10/8/2023, in which it approved the registration of voters born in 2006 exclusively who have completed (18) years of age in On February 25, 2023, biometrically, in the governorates of the Kurdistan Region, and for a period of ten (10) days starting from October 10, 2023, so that they can participate in the process of electing the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region.



    In its session, the Council also approved “the regulations for the process of electing the Kurdistan Regional Parliament 2024, including (the electoral campaign system, the system of agents for political parties and alliances, the media system and accreditation of media professionals, and the systems for accrediting international and local observers).”

    The Board of Commissioners also discussed “the paragraphs of the counting and sorting system for the process of electing the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in a way that ensures its conduct in accordance with international standards, as the Council decided to conduct manual counting and sorting for all polling stations after the end of the electronic counting and sorting process and print the results report for the purpose of matching the results. If the match is Complete, the results of the electronic counting and sorting are approved, and in the event of a mismatch, the results of the manual counting and sorting are approved.”

    In the same special session, “the Board of Commissioners decided to conduct the electronic lottery for polling officials on Sunday, October 22nd, with the lottery being conducted at the level of each governorate, and the implementation mechanism being electronic at the level of each registration center.”

    While work and coordination with the relevant authorities continues to verify the eligibility of candidates, the Election Commission has formed “central monitoring committees in the national office and sub-committees in the governorate electoral offices, which are responsible for monitoring and following up on violations of coalition and party candidates not approved by the Board of Commissioners, and before the Board of Commissioners sets a date for launching the election.” Election campaigns.

    The statement indicated, “The subcommittees monitored a number of violations and violations, including a number of candidates using early electoral propaganda, informing party representatives of the need to lift the violation, and taking all legal measures against those who violate the electoral campaign system.”
