    Baghdad today - Baghdad
For about two months now, fears, statements, warnings, and scenes related to drought in Iraq have “relatively” subsided, to the point that the issue was almost forgotten, and while this calm is not far removed from its connection to the temporal factor in terms of the end of the winter and summer agricultural plan, the change in weather and the decline of heat, in addition to aspirations for the season Good rain may compensate for the lack of strategic reserves, but the increase in water releases from the Tigris River from Turkey to Iraq's natural quota was a major reason for the easing of fears about drought.
Two months ago, specifically in the middle of last August, the Ministry of Water Resources announced an increase in Turkey’s releases to the Tigris River by 500 cubic meters per second, after it had not exceeded 300 cubic meters per second. Perhaps it is not surprising that this date coincides with the Iraqi-Turkish discussions on a number of files. At that time, especially the development road file.
Specifically, on August 20, at the same time as the increase in launches, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced the results of an “Iraqi-Turkish” meeting in Ankara regarding the steps to begin the path of development, while indicating that the Turkish side had begun to extend a 133 km railway, linking The modern railway line from the Iraqi-Turkish border and between the Turkish railways, which she described as "ensuring the connection of the large port of Al-Faw to Europe."
Not far from these data, Representative Thaer Makhif Al-Kitab Al-Jubouri said, today, Tuesday (October 17, 2023), in an interview with “Baghdad Today”, that there is a positive push with Ankara on the water file, the main content of which is the path to development.
Al-Jubouri told "Baghdad Today", "The water issue is a priority in Iraq, especially since the results of drought in recent years have shown the extent of its danger at home and its negative repercussions that can be summarized in several points, most notably the environmental damage to agricultural areas, the creation of forced displacement, and the loss of tens of thousands of their sources of livelihood." ".
He added, "The water issue with Ankara has recently witnessed a positive momentum, the main content of which is the development road project, which will create economic horizons and change transportation routes from Southeast Asia towards Europe and will be an incentive for real development in Iraq and the countries of the region."
He pointed out that "Ankara has expressed its desire for a major involvement of its companies in the development road project because of its great positive aspects, in addition to the fact that Turkey constitutes an important pillar in transporting goods coming from Iraq towards Europe due to the presence of the infrastructure for services, including train railways and the rest of the other procedures."
He continued, "The development road project and its economic partnership, which will pay the benefits to greater stages, will push Ankara to greater flexibility and smoothness in the water file by pumping larger releases that will contribute to improving the water situation in the country through the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in a way that prevents the emergence of any crisis threatening the agricultural areas, expecting an increase in the pace of Official visits exchanged between Baghdad and Ankara in the past months to develop a new vision regarding the water file in general.

Erdogan looks forward to a new world through the Iraqi development path
Last September 19, during a speech he delivered at the thirteenth annual “Concordia” Summit in New York City and during participation in the meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Turkish-Iraqi development road project provides the opportunity to build a new world.
The Turkish President stressed that his country sensed a great determination from the Gulf countries to implement the Turkish-Iraqi development road project, adding: “We are also determined (to implement the project),” noting that “we will have (through the Turkish-Iraqi development road) the opportunity to build a new world.” Through this step that we intend to take.”
