Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Planning confirmed its intention to conduct the general population census in November of next year.
A statement from the ministry received by Al-Iqtisad News stated, “Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, chaired a meeting that included the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry supervising the census, Azhar Hussein Saleh, the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics/Head of the Census Operations Room, Diya Awad Kazem, and the Executive Director-General of the Census, Ali Erian.” In the presence of the United Nations Population Fund Advisor for Census Affairs, Mahdi Al-Alaq, to discuss the terms of the memorandum of understanding to be concluded with the United Nations Population Fund, and to review the progress achieved in the census operations schedule, and the mechanisms of cooperation with ministries and governorates in implementing the census.
Tamim confirmed, according to the statement, that “the government is determined to conduct the census in November of next year by providing financial allocations, within the tripartite budget law, and securing all requirements related to completing the infrastructure, and following up on the stages of work, stressing” the necessity of adhering to the operational schedule and timetables for the stages. Implementation, to avoid any delay, and to address any problem that arises.”
The Minister of Planning directed that the meeting continue to be held about a week ago to follow up on developments in the work.
