The Ministry of Immigration and Displacement began merging and closing camps for displaced people in the governorates of the region, revealing that it had granted 1.5 million dinars and durable goods to families returning to their areas. The number of camps for the displaced in the region is 26, with 16 in Dohuk, six in Erbil, and four in Sulaymaniyah. The official spokesman for the ministry, Ali Abbas Jhakir, explained in a statement to “Al-Sabah” that the absence of the role of international organizations to support the displaced in the governorates of the region, caused this work to fall on the shoulders of His Ministry, which made efforts to compensate the displaced there for this by allocating sums to rehabilitate the camps, especially related to providing drinking water, food baskets, and heavy water networks, in addition to periodic maintenance of the camps. He pointed out that his ministry had begun a project to merge and close camps for the displaced in the region, with three camps in Sulaymaniyah and the same number in Erbil, revealing that his ministry had provided a grant of one million and 500 thousand dinars to families returning to their areas, in addition to giving them free durable goods, including a refrigerator, a cooker, and a television set, as support for them and to enable them. To resume life within its regions again. In 2020, the government decided to close all camps for the displaced and return them to their areas, but this step did not include the displaced residing in the governorates of the region.
