Eyewitnesses from the village of Kista in the Kani Masi district, north of Dohuk, reported on Sunday that Turkish vehicles are currently working on establishing a new military road, extending from the Turkish district of Ulder to their village.
Witnesses confirmed that they saw Turkish army vehicles working to set up rock cutting plants and build roads in the vicinity of the village of Kista.
For his part, an informed source said, “Turkey’s goal in establishing this road is to transfer military and logistical aid to its military bases within the areas of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.”
The source explained, “Turkey established several military bases in this region, and extended roads to all of these bases, even though these areas are considered rugged, with high mountainous terrain and deep valleys.”
It is noteworthy that the border areas between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey have been witnessing an armed conflict between the Turkish army and members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party for decades, as the region is exposed to Turkish air strikes from time to time, which made about 40 villages within the borders of the district threatened with evacuation, according to a previous statement by the director of the Kani Masi district.
