    Alsumaria News - Security

In contrast to the various development indicators, in which developing countries usually rank late with negative results, the electronic crime index shows a difference in behavior, as developing countries are less vulnerable to electronic penetration compared to important and large countries.

The website specialized in the electronic crime index, which Al-Sumaria News followed, indicates that more than 87% of countries had a penetration intensity lower than the global average of 50 leaked emails per thousand users, and this indicates that hackers target some countries more than others.

Russia stands out in particular for its intensity of hacking, with the number of leaked email accounts at 17 times the global average, with 8 out of every 10 Russian internet users hacked in 2022. France comes in second, with 3 out of every 10 users hacked.

In general, we see that hackers target developing countries much less, as the penetration map shows that the Arab countries in Asia and Africa, and most of the countries in these two continents in the Middle East, are the least vulnerable to hacking, while Iraq comes as the country least vulnerable to electronic hacking on the continent of Asia.

At the continental level, the lowest rates of hacked email accounts are found in Africa, with 4 out of every 1,000, and Asia with 23 hacked accounts for every 1,000 Internet users.

Europe has the highest penetration rates: 1 in 5 European internet users were hacked in 2022. This number is more than 4 times higher than the global average.

In terms of cybercrime, the United Kingdom leads the world in the intensity of cybercrime, with the number of victims reaching 4,371 victims per million Internet users in 2022.

Cybercrime has risen since 2001, with the number of victims of cybercrime increasing by 16 times (from 6 to 91 victims every hour), and financial losses increased more than 570 times (from $2,000 to nearly $1.2 million per hour).

In total, cybercrime claimed the lives of at least 7,303,267 victims and losses of $36.4 billion over 22 years.
