    International Freedom House issued its annual report (Freedom of the World) for the Global Freedom Index 2024, which assesses the degree of political freedoms and civil liberties in 210 countries, in the period from January 1, 2023 to December 31. 2023.

    According to this year's report, global freedom will decline for the eighteenth consecutive year in 2023. The breadth and depth of the decline are vast. Political rights and civil liberties were diminished in 52 countries, while only 21 countries made improvements. Flawed elections and armed conflict contributed to that decline, endangering freedom and causing enormous damage and human suffering.



    The Freedom in the World report evaluates the actual rights and freedoms enjoyed by individuals, not the performance of governments or governments per se. Political rights and civil liberties can be affected by both state and non-state actors, including insurgents and other armed groups.

    In the Arab world, Syria ranked first in the index that acknowledges the lack of freedom, bringing the total points it scored according to the index to 1.

    As for Iraq, it ranked 9th in the Arab world, obtaining 30 points in the index, as stated in the Arab countries region that does justice to the “lack of freedom.” In which.
