    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (March 14, 2024), the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee revealed the latest developments in the legislation of the National Security Apparatus law, while confirming that there are no political disagreements  over the law.
Committee member Hussein Al-Amiri told “Baghdad Today” that “the National Security Apparatus law is ready for voting, and there are no political differences over it at all. Rather, there is a great parliamentary desire to legislate this law due to its importance,” indicating that “the law will be voted on during the semester.” current legislative.”
Al-Amiri stated that "the upcoming parliament sessions will witness the inclusion of the National Security Apparatus law for voting, especially since this law will define the basic tasks of the agency, including carrying out intelligence and security operations, in addition to its powers, and it specifies the specifications of who will be the head of the agency according to the law."
Last May, Parliament completed the second reading of the National Security Apparatus bill submitted by the Security and Defense Committee.
Representatives called for "pressuring the administrative departments and the number of advisors in the agency, mentioning the appointment mechanism and the conditions and qualifications of agents in the law, and inquiring about the reason for excluding the agency from fees and taxes."
They also demanded that “the law of the agency be within the civil and military framework, and to focus on the importance of developing the work of the agency and supporting its human capabilities, and to include in the law a clause preventing dual nationalities from working in the agency, and to reconsider the article related to accepting gifts and donations and granting powers to the head of the agency.”
The concerned committee called for "the necessity of accelerating the legislation of the National Security Law due to its utmost importance in serving the supreme interest of the country, stressing that it will take into consideration all the comments of the Council members."
The National Security Service is one of the pillars of the security system in Iraq and was established after 2003. It is concerned with many internal files, including supporting efforts to combat terrorism and organized crime.
