[rtl]Member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce, Hamid Al-Husseini, reported that Iran exports goods worth $10 billion to Iraq annually, of which about $2.5 billion goes to the Kurdistan Region.[/rtl]
[rtl]Hamid Al-Husseini said that after the visit of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani to Tehran, “some problems between us were resolved, and now we are thinking about developing trade relations.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "In the first two months of this year, we exported goods worth $1.6 billion, excluding gas and electricity, which shows us that we export goods worth $800 million per month."[/rtl]
[rtl]“Last year, our trade relations with the Kurdistan Region were not good. Of the $10 billion we exported to Iraq, about $2.5 billion went to the Kurdistan Region,” Al-Husseini said.[/rtl]
[rtl]He explained, "Iran's second largest exports to Iraq are glass and steel. In this regard, the Kurdistan Region owns several large glass factories and has reached the level of self-sufficiency, and the Kurdistan Region's share of Iranian exports to Iraq is about 40 percent."[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Husseini stated, “Iraq imports between $67 billion and $75 billion annually, and our share of this amount is only $10 billion, which is a small amount for us,” expecting it to reach $12 billion, and “we plan to increase it next year.”[/rtl]
[rtl]The Iraqi government imports gas and electricity from Iran, and because of US sanctions on the country, the Central Bank of Iraq was unable to pay for Iranian gas and electricity, causing a lot of Iranian money to accumulate in Iraqi banks.[/rtl]
[rtl]In this regard, Al-Husseini said: “The United States recently granted permission to the Iraqi TBI Bank to pay some of its debts to Iran, and for the sake of free trade, the United States removed some Iraqi banks that were previously blacklisted.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Last month, KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani went to Tehran and met separately with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as then-President Ebrahim Raisi and then-Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian; Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.[/rtl]
