Today, Monday, the Ministry of Planning announced that it has taken four strict measures to reduce counterfeit gold, while indicating that the judiciary preserves the rights of citizens regarding this type of gold.
Ministry spokesman, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said, “The special teams of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control follow up on the work of the goldsmiths and monitor the gold jewelry that is traded in the Iraqi markets,” noting that they “continuously conduct on-site inspections of all the goldsmiths’ shops.”
He added, "The Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control undertakes the process of granting licenses and work permits to practice the goldsmithing profession. It also examines imported gold before it is traded in local markets."
He pointed out, “There is a trend to open centers to inspect imported gold jewelry at Iraqi airports, before they enter the local markets,” pointing out that “the Ministry takes the legal measures mentioned in the law of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control when seizing counterfeit gold jewelry, which is closing The shop, withdrawing the license to practice the profession, referring the violator to the judiciary to take legal measures against him, and confiscating the adulterated gold with a judicial report.
Regarding how to restore the rights of a citizen who has been cheated, Al-Hindawi stated that “the judiciary is capable of restoring rights according to the evidence available in this case.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, previously directed the need to expedite the completion of requirements for opening units to examine gold and precious jewelry at Iraqi airports.
